I would hold out just a few more days until the full release comes out. Many problems should be fixed that were plaging the beta (wireless is a big one). Another alternative is Mandriva. Personally, I've had a better experience using Mandriva on the eee PC vs Ubuntu. Everything works out of the box (much more so than Ubuntu).
